Question of the day: How Do I Optimize My Real Estate Video Content for Search Indexing?
The optimization of your real estate video content for search engine indexing has become a much more relevant exercise…. and your real estate blogsite will help! The reason centers around Google’s stated commitment to direct some of their search engine results page [SERP] focus on to non traditional forms of content, such as video [see- Google’s Universal Search ].
Here are best practices for improving your real estate video content’s search engine indexing:
- Obviously, create good real estate video content! For instance, make sure the video represents your service accurately. The more viewing activity and organic back linking the better the chances are for search visibility!
- Create a video library in YouTube… and upload all videos to it. While some quality may be at stake, YouTube adds simple embed code for other usage and tracking. Youtube is where video search and consumption is happening; however, because embed code enables the Google algorithm to count and compare total viewings [regardless of where they occur], get the [embedded] real estate video content in front of any audience you can!
- Use relevant local real estate keyword titles, descriptions and tags wherever possible. This enables a search algorithm to understand and index your unique real estate video content.
- When you save a real estate video file for future web usage, add targeted keywords to the video file name… other words change ABS.wmv … to Vail_CO_Luxury_Home.wmv
- Use your real estate blogsite posts to upload embedded real estate video content. Blog posts can go a long way, so consider surrounding your real estate videos with on page copy OR even a transcript of any audio that describes it. Ultimately, use relevant blog title, content and also tags that can increase Google’s understanding of the content.
- Consider creating a real estate video library page [with anchor text based deep internal links] on your real estate blogsite. Be sure to have video site map recognition so that both humans and search spiders can find it.
- Keep real estate video content short and to the point… [re]searchers often have short attention spans and you want them to watch and react to it.
-
When relevant to other blog posts, leverage anchor text based deep internal linking to your real estate video content.

Great Post! One other thing that I found tremendously helpful is the creation of a Google Video Sitemap. Just do a Google search for “video sitemap” and you will get a wealth of info.
Yes, agreed and thanks Steve!
Chris, good points in terms of SEO suggestions however I have to differ with you on two specific points.
#2. “Youtube is where video search and consumption is happening”
While yes on a general level this is true, real estate video is an advertisement for a property and likewise requires a more nuanced approach than most other content. As an agent, broker or owner, can we agree that your videos need to be in places where people are searching for property (MLS, your blog, listings, etc.)? Let’s be frank, no one is searching for their next dream home or apartment on YouTube. Furthermore, you can NOT embed YouTube videos into MLS listings. You WILL get fined, period. While I would not discourage anyone from putting their videos on YouTube, as a real estate professional or property owner we need to consider three very important factors before uploading video anywhere:
1 – This video site makes it’s money via advertising. Will my clients accept video advertising (often random) within their video tour?
2 – This video site is a generalist video site, there are multiple categories of content. Do I you run the risk of losing a consumers attention to other content on the site?
3 – If presenting my clients video in the best light is a goal, am I compromising the quality of their video on this site?
In summary… if your goal is to drive leads while presenting a property in the best possible light, YouTube might be the first site that comes to mind (because of it’s ubiquity), but is it the right one?
#7. “Keep real estate video content short and to the point… [re]searchers often have short attention spans and you want them to watch and react to it.”
100% true but only if you can’t do this with your videos:

Hi Phil.
Thanks for your feedback.
On a general level, Youtube is one of the three or four most trafficked sites on the web; however and even more important, Google now indexes video content to it’s own search results as a priority AND they own YouTube. So, the optimization of your video content is well served when loaded up there and then anywhere else- see Video Improves Likelihood of 1st Page in Google by 50X? http://kineticknowledge.com/blog/youtube/video-search-optimization-google/
And then, are you sure YouTube intends to actually invade someone’s video with other video advertising? Pay Per Click and some permanent Banner Ads are there, but an actual modification of the video is something we’ve never seen. It would be great for eveyone if you could substantiate that.
Chris
It is neat to say look for Maine farms for sale and find one of our video embedded in the google search engine. Had a 7200 view 100 acre parcel sell to an Arizona buyer who never would have trekked this far east but for video. Video hits five senses, this comment uses only your eyeballs..no sound of my voice (audio is 40% of a video) not seeing the trees sway, a fireplace dancing. Video is huge for many reasons.
