Multi-Regionalization of MLS Systems Underway

By admin • August 27th, 2007

The MLS System in many parts of the country is undergoing revisions. The trend of late has not been towards regional MLS Systems but Multi-Regional MLS Systems where the systems are centralized into one large MLS database as opposed to several smaller ones.  The movement is an effort to simplify and drive greater efficiency as well as provide additional marketing tools for local Realtors.

Inman news announced today that the large Southern Californian MLS of over 30,000 members is merging with the much smaller Great South Bay MLS of 6,000 members to create a Multi-Regional MLS system.  Both are members of the California MLS Alliance which stretches from Northern to Southern California.  This entity encompasses over 145,000 agents and brokers who will be supplied with information across 10 MLS Systems.

This major move has caused the Multi-Regional MLS to take on more staff to accommodate its new members.

Many MLS Systems across the country have gone through major technological updates to make them more user friendly for agents and brokers to list properties and gather information.

This news supports the trend for larger more efficient MLS Systems which are all a part of the changing industry movement to Real Estate 2.0.
