Online Video Usage on the Internet Growing
Many people think that the growth in viewing of online video is driven by younger audiences. Recent statistics however show that it is middle aged viewers who are using online video to catch up on news broadcasts who are leading the way.
A study by advertising.com shows that 69% of online video viewers are 35 or older and use online video to mostly watch news updates and that 62% of respondants to the study used online video to watch the news. Music Videos are widely thought to be the top when it comes to online video, however in this study they came third with only a 36% popularity whilst viewing movie trailers just beat music videos by 2% at 38% popularity.
With recent statistics showing that the average american spends 14 hours a week watching TV and now 14 hours a week on the internet, the change in technology is shifting from traditional advertising mediums (TV, Radio and Print) to Internet based advertising avenues. Online video is one of these online routes that can be used by companies wanting to give an added extra to their potential customers and drive the number of hits. Video is, after all an integral part of Web 2.0.
The equivilant of blogging in video is "vlogging" where the same principles of blogging are applied to video creation. In terms of real estate this means utilising video creation to advertising listings and services.
Apart from using these videos in blog posts and on your websites, social networking websites such as Facebook and MySpace are including video applications that integrate within their platform strengthening online video’s reach.
