New Google Map’s Embedding Feature

By admin • August 22nd, 2007

Google Maps is a fantastic resource for all including Real Estate Agents who can use them to reference a properties location or the neighborhood – or even use it to provide directions to a property from their office.

Now, Google Maps allows you to embed a map into your website or blog through the usage of iFrames, – sample, above of New York. – these frames allow site within a site embedding and although the material inside the frame will not be indexed by the search engine it is a useful tool for your readers and prospective clients. One word of warning, Mozzilla Firefox does not currently support iFrames.

It can be used on a blog post about a listing or even used as a ‘birds-eye-view’ of the property by switching the map to satellite mode which allows you to see satellite photos of the property and area.

Like in this instance, Google’s Headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

This is a great resource that could be a useful addition to your readers experience on your Blog and help in the general marketing of a property. Instantly potential buyers can see whether a property is in a built up neighborhood or in a rural location as well as seeing other locations nearby.

Google Maps also allows you to customize the embedded map – in terms of size, When you find your location, click on "Link to this page" – near to the "print" link. A small pink box will appear and there are two boxes, "Paste link in email or IM" and "Paste HTML to embed in website" is the second option. Below this there is a link "Customize and preview embedded map"- if you click this a pop up window appears allowing you to customize the size of your embedded map. At the bottom of the pop up there is the code you need to embed into your website or blog post. Copy this and if embedding into a blog post switch your blog post to HTML mode and paste into your site/post and then save and the map will be embedded. (NB. Always ensure that the HTML tag is closed – i.e. </iframe> at the end of the code)
