Google News to add new comments feature

By admin • August 10th, 2007

This feature in the long term is envisaged to allow contributors to give their personal perspective and comments on the journalists view of the story. All in the aid of a more fair and balanced story, along with providing more content for readers, reports Yahoo News Online.

Google’s vision is of a community based news resource, which is interactive between the newscaster and the public. This idea is very similar to how a blog platform works and will allow Google to gauge reader interaction and news quality through comments.

However, press releases may not benefit from the commenting system as they are often very one sided in their reporting on a situation or product. On the plus side, news stories which are biased might be discouraged by negative comments. This could prove to be a great Internet Marketing Opportunity as News Companies could be praised for fair & balanced press and shunned for bias.

If Google News itself follows the same success as the original Google Search Engine then press agencies might be in for a tough time. Google’s web presence is quite simply enormous and still growing at an exponential rate. It is literally forcing consumers towards Web 2.0 technologies,  including podcasting and blogging, in its effort to give the average consumer the right answer to a search query. Consumers may just come to grips with new these technologies; whereas, Internet Marketers and Businesses need to accept less control over news and that these technologies are here to stay.

How does this relate to the blogosphere? Well, Google News is another feature of Web 2.0 that alongside blogging will provide resources for the consumer and fresh content for Google. If used as a blogging resource extra ‘Google Juice’  may be obtain- able by reference. In short, if you blog it is a great resource for you to research & share current events [with less bias] in your focused area.
